THIS ARTICLE HAS BEEN REVISED FROM ITS ORIGINAL FOR A VERY PRAISE-WORTHY REASON

Dr. Kenneth Gentry, a contributor to the book When Shall These Things Be?: A Reformed Response to Hyperpreterism was recently invited to be interviewed on an Internet “Radio” show that was co-founded by a hyperpreterist & has hosted several hyperpreterist speakers, allowing them to present themselves merely as “preterists” without any distinction.  When Dr. Gentry was alerted to the background of the “radio” program, he immediately investigated for himself & verified that indeed the program was doing more than simply “discussing” the issue of hyperpreterism (which is fine) but the program had been used to promote & put forth hyperpreterism as a valid theological view.

Then Dr. Gentry did what more theologians & Christian speakers should do — He took a stand & canceled his appearance on the program.  After all, why should Dr. Gentry lend credibility to a program that is advancing heresies?

Though the hyperpreterist co-founder of the program had resigned a few months before, the remaining host had left much of the hyperpreterist material on the website.  After private & loving counsel from Dr. Gentry, & upon further introspection, the remaining host decided it was time to finally remove any traces of the hyperpreterism that had been festering on the site.  During a phone conversation with Bill Hill, the remaining host & advocate of HISTORIC CHRISTIANITY, told me that he is re-vamping the Covenant Radio website to be free of any appearance of validating hyperpreterism.  PRAISE GOD!!!  Thank you Lord & thank you Dr. Gentry & Bill Hill for doing the right thing.

What Dr. Gentry did was show integrity where often it seems theologians/authors will skip principles just to plug or sell themselves or their materials.

I applaud Dr. Gentry, especially since hyperpreterists have for years been trying to associate him with their errors.  Hyperpreterists, even now want to depict Dr. Gentry as someone who would enter a discussion with them on equal theological respect.  No, Dr. Gentry, like so many of these other theologians the hyperpreterists think disagree but accept them does NOT accept them as valid.  Though it is up to God to determine who is ultimately “saved”, people like the hyperpreterists who follow not just a minor error, but a major, major heresy should NOT be treated like Christians since they are following something that is NOTHING like historic Christianity.  It should be clear now, that Dr. Gentry is not fooled by hyperpreterism nor by the hyperpreterist smooth & flattering speech routine they often use to dupe otherwise legitimate theologians into appearing to validate hyperpreterism.

What Bill Hill did also was brave & worthy of lauding as an act of Christian integrity.  While Hill will probably experience some backlash from hyperpreterists who had become accustomed to the cozy relationship they had with the former co-host, Hill will stand with historic Christianity & is now taking the radio show in a different direction.

Praise God! Thanks be to Christ & His Saints!
