It Matters What We Do Part Two

Wow, I’m a poet and didn’t know it. Thank you, thank you, I’ll be here all week.

Okay I had to start with a bit of levity because the dirty business of exposing slimy tactics is dead serious, and if that is all I did; well life would be dark.

Now onto the latest shenanigans. The Domain Game. In Episode 20 of The Preterist Podcast, I mentioned how a certain hyperpreterist unethically kept the domain name of preterism.com when he should have returned it to its rightful owner. During that show, I don’t remember if I mentioned the address of the hate site against me. It was the exact same name as my former site, just with a different extension—.org instead of .com. That is just low-down-dirty tactics. Let me tell you, when I started that site, I considered doing something like that. My flesh said yes, yes, yes, yes! But my conscience said no. No matter how much you disagree with a person, it is wrong to capitalize off of their branding and work. It is wrong to try to trick their audience into coming to your site by accident. It is wrong to pervert their work; even if you think their work is perverse to begin with. That is why I didn’t start anything like therealpreteristarchive.com or planetpreterism.com or something like that. IT WOULD BE WRONG. It is the tactic of a punk. It isn’t “legally” theft, but I consider it ethically theft. Some of the men who have done this (I will detail more below) are associates of “pastor” Samuel Frost. He needs to do something about it, at the very least speak out publicly. You see, I keep mentioning Sam and “pastor” because the qualifications for a pastor, if I considered him a Christian, are terrifying. Too many men take it way too lightly. I am glad I am not a man and therefore automatically not qualified to be an elder or a pastor. A pastor is to be above reproach.

I think we Christians are too used to hearing this Christianese and don’t really think about it. Above reproach! I do value my honour and integrity, but do I think I could live up to beyond reproach?? Now obviously that doesn’t mean that no one ever says anything bad about you because there are always liars and slanderers and just plain loonies, but exclude those people, how many men are there that can be said to be above reproach? If that don’t put the fear of God in you, nothing will. But that is the standard I am calling Samuel too, and he has nowhere met it in his dealings with me.

Now, because I feel so strongly about this thievery issue, I am taking on the cause of a defending two friends. People who know me well know that I get way more worked up when a friend is mistreated then when I am. They call it “the mother hen” syndrome. Most of you know or have heard of Todd Dennis and the Preterist Archive. Todd was a hyperpreterist for many years and has since renounced hyperpreterism. Despite what the three horsemen of SGP have claimed about him, he does not deny the future bodily resurrection, the future bodily return of Christ, or the future final judgment. Former hyperpreterists who stick around to combat what they once believed are in for some brutal abuse. Todd has always been a very gentle soul. He has spent over a decade building a branding in his field, that being eschatogy, with the PreteristArchive.com and branching off into sub-categories like the PreteristIdealismArchive.com etc.

Well a hyperpreterist by the name of John Scargy thought it would be just peachy to steal his branding and concept and register BiblicalPreteristArchive.com—which also mimics some of Todd’s design elements. That is just not right. On a side note, go check out the site, it looks like a Gary DeMar fan site. Don’t hold your breath for Gary DeMar to say a peep about it. And irony of ironies, the tagline is “Restoring Integrity to the Word of God” as if the Word of God had no integrity until this band of internet heretics came along. I think John needs to worry more about restoring his own integrity first and find a way to promote his work without so blatantly ripping off someone else. Oh that’s right, its okay because Todd is a traitor.

Well that burned my biscuits. I did not like seeing Todd treated that way, especially since I know how that feels. Well Mr. SmartyPants didn’t consider that others might not think what he did was so cool, so I purchased the .org and .com versions as well as a variation thereof and are having them point to Todd’s site. I bought those domains for Todd. They are rightfully his. That branding is rightfully his. If John wanted to “restore integrity” he would abandon his rip-off of Todd.

John promotes SGP on that site as well. What a big surprise! And here’s another shocker, Jason Bradfield (wow that name is becoming familiar) set up a side group on the Holy Culture Forum called “The Preterist Archive.” That stinks worse than two-week old dead trout.

Another former hyperpreterist, Brian Simmons has gotten this treatment. Brian’s site is http://antipreterist.wordpress.com/. It is hosted for free on WordPress. That doesn’t negate the fact that he has built up a branding and reputation around the identifier “anti-preterist.” Well guess what? Someone who had money to burn to rip off Brian bought antipreterist.com, .net, and .org. The owner/operator is none other than John W. Riffe (a strange breed of hyperpreterist) who, I have been told, denies the bodily resurrection of Christ. If my information is incorrect, let me know immediately. John opposes a lot of hyperpreterists, but that gives him no right to take Brian’s concept and point it to a site that Brian would be completely opposed to. It’s just wrong.

Now, obviously there are only so many domain names in the world, and in a common interest there is going to be some commonality. There is also going to be some inadvertant encroachment. These activities do not fall under that categories. No, there really isn’t such a site, but this is what cyber-bullies do.

I often joke about how many domains I own. But the sad fact is that I have to because the hyperpreterists can be ruthless. So, let me give a short run-down of sites I had to buy to make it at least somewhat difficult, but not impossible, for a hyperpreterist to steal my branding:

preteristsite.com, .org, .net, .info
preterismsite.com .org, .net, .info
thepreteristsite.com .org, .net, .info
thepreterismsite.com .org, .net, .info

preteristblog.com, .org, .net, .info
preterismblog.com .org, .net, .info
thepreteristblog.com .org, .net, .info
thepreterismblog.com .org, .net, .info

preteristpodcast.com, .org, .net, .info
preterismblog.podcast .org, .net, .info
thepreteristblog.podcast .org, .net, .info
thepreterismblog.podcast .org, .net, .info

And so on for other domains I own as I have some future project plans that haven’t been announced yet. And like Apple, I don’t talk about future releases. So that is needless money wasted because there are people who act like a hyperactive skunk.

“Pastor” Frost, are you going to comment on this? Let me give you a piece of advice. I would never do it to you, but you hyperpreterists will sow what you reap. Make sure you go and buy every variation of your names as well and spend an arm and a leg because you can’t trust people to be ethical. If you are a hyperpreterist who is considering leaving, do it before you leave.

Shame on you all who do perfidious things like that.

And it looks like a new bully is on the block: Mike Loomis who has see-sawed back and forth and has apparently returned to the wolves. On that page, in the “about me” section, this is what he says:

I’ve been a reticent preterist for quite some time…But am quickly coming out of my shell. Watch out Roderick Warren…Here I come.

Why the barnyard cock-strutting? Who the heck is Roderick Warren? Why do you feel the need to do the theological equivalent of “hey everyone, looks at these guns” while striking a body-builder pose?

Well Mike, you don’t have to “watch out” for me. Unless you show unethical behaviour it is doubtful that I will even notice you. For the record, if that statement was meant to be intimidating; it came off as a sad need for self-affirmation.
