Finally, I would like to offer an apology to the Hyper Preterist community for ever defending Brian Simmons or Roderick Edwards. I would also like to publicly apologize to the readers and co-authors of Theology Today for ever allowing Roderick or Brian to use me and my website to further their agendas which are anything but godly. I made a major mistake by allowing these two a platform and I hope in time you will forgive me and hopefully I regain the trust that you once had in me and my Apologetic work at Theology Today.

He worded that much better than I did. Please substitute PreteristBlog for Theology Today at the end and add that to the apology already given in my actual post.

Each day I intend upon going through past archives and unpublishing posts of Roderick’s that contain accusations based upon his veracity alone. His articles that do not do such shall remain as I do believe they are worthwhile and offer a point of view that deserves a hearing. A great many of them deal with Reformed issues, and as I am not yet Reformed, it is a valuable insight that I do not bring to the table.

This post thread (post and comments) will be the last time thing blog addresses Brian or Roderick barring an exceptional circumstance. I leave the door slightly ajar because you never know what unstable people might do in the future. But they are a distraction and hindrance to the furtherance of opposing hyperpreterism and providing resources to those struggling with the issue. We will not go into the silly practice of “he who shall not be named,” if it becomes necessary to mention them, we will, but only as an exception to this rule. They are damaging to the body to the Christ.

Mr. Hate Site himself Virgil tried posting here. Nope Virgil, the things Roderick posted about you were true, as I had experienced them myself. The invitation to delete links was for items that relied upon Roderick’s veracity alone–particularly those that talked about the personal relationships in the hyperpreterist community which I never was a part of. I don’t need Roderick to know that you are a malicious, manipulative, stalking, creep who used a friend’s account to set up that site. Yes Virgil, I know who you used. I don’t think that person’s family appreciated sharing the same IP with your misogynistic hate site. No you were not quite as clever as you thought.

As far as this line:

Mr. Ethical Virgil is STILL posting Roderick’s old articles on his front page as if they are current. It is one thing to keep the old articles up where they originally appeared. It is quite another to simply regurgitate them on your front page.

Roderick, stop posting here. Right after Jon made a request for his articles to be deleted, you and I discussed the issue and agreed that at any site, allowing your material to be posted gives the website a limited publishing right, i.e. limited to how and where it was published on the site. As such, no, your articles will not be removed. There are comments on them that represent the time and energy of other people not just you. As I told you last year, that is the policy of TheologyWeb, and it is the policy here. If you have something in writing to the contrary, produce it.

What I will not do is take anything you have written and republish it as if you just wrote it. You are truly desparate if you think keeping material up on a position you STILL hold is anywhere near the same as Virgil republishing article on a position you NO LONGER HOLD as if you did and as if it were current.

If you have something in writing to the contrary, let me know. Otherwise, please do not post here. I do not want to have to set your statistics to the spam folder along with Virgil’s.

Hi Kelby, Dr. Talbot and I were discussing almost that very thing the other night… that someone really has to feel called to this type of thing. It certainly isn’t for everyone. It is the same I think with any counter-cult work.

If you take a look back at some of the work Phil has done over the years, he has taken quite a bit of abuse from the health & wealth crowd.

Any doubt that Roderick is behaving like a troll?

Now… since he has commented on his own blog about my comments here, he has read them. Can any honest person who has read my posts here claim that I have any alliance or comraderie with Virgil?

This whole thing is incredible huh?

I can honestly say the Paschal thing prepared me for what Ive been doing for the last few years at Theology Today. What you are witnessing with Roderick and Brian is childs play compared to what I went through with him.

Paschal used a popular tennis message board to anonymously attack me. Every single day for at least 2 years (prior to the owner of the board taking it down) Paschal would accuse me of being a pedophile, a child abuser, talking about threatening to harm him and his female students physically, accused me of committing crimes…..and on and on. The one thing that was never offered was proof of any of it….

Anyhow, this was bad because I’m an American living in Europe and unfortunately the Iraqi war started and let me tell you it wasn’t all that fun to be here. Add in the fact that Paschal was making these crazy accusations and it became very dangerous here for me. Parents were reading this crap and giving me funny looks but you know what? God stepped in and nearly all of the people that began here are still here. My character showed through and Paschal proved to be a liar.

Dee Dee and Dr. Talbot are correct. You have to be called to do this work. You will be lied to and lied about. You will be betrayed by people you consider close friends. You will be forced to call out people you care about and you will be attacked by who knows how many anonymous people because its easier to attack the messenger then to receive the message. The key here is 1Peter 3:15-16 my friend. The ones who are called will set Christ apart 1st in their lives and the ones who aren’t called are the ones who have to play back alley games and run smear campaigns because Christ isn’t first. Sometimes we can spot these things immediately and sometimes we can’t but the truth always comes out in the end.

My first two years at Theology Today were brutal because I was still stinging over that 5 year hate campaign. I fired away at people in the combox because I wasn’t going to allow anyone to mess with me which is NOT setting apart Christ 1st, is it. The last 8 month’s I’ve been in MAJOR battles and the reason I survived is because I finally learned to set Him apart 1st, place all my faith in Christ and let Him be the one to protect me, and He has Kelby.

Kelby, you ARE doing this work. While you might not be the one on the front line, you are praying and encouraging those who are. While we are looking at things with our eyes, you are seeing things with your heart and your insight and prayers and encouragement have been a blessing to us all! Thank you for that!

I thank you for that. I do not believe my foremost calling is in countercult ministry specifically; but I am strongly leaning toward the ministry as an occuptation, which is why i continue to observe, encourage and comment rather than just run away. While I don’t *want* to deal with this stuff, I realize as a minister it would be a distinct possibility that i might have to. I continue to encourage you in what you do; i’m just so confused about how some like ROdderick–who from his posts seemed fairly upstanding–could do stuff like this.

That sums it up Kelby. That sums up my experiences with Roderick Edwards and Brian Simmons. How do you recognize them?

Mat 7:16 By their fruit you will recognize them. Do people pick grapes from thornbushes, or figs from thistles?
Mat 7:17 Likewise every good tree bears good fruit, but a bad tree bears bad fruit.
Mat 7:18 A good tree cannot bear bad fruit, and a bad tree cannot bear good fruit.
Mat 7:19 Every tree that does not bear good fruit is cut down and thrown into the fire.

What else did Jesus say;

Mat 10:16 I am sending you out like sheep among wolves. Therefore be as shrewd as snakes and as innocent as doves.
Mat 10:17 “Be on your guard against men; they will hand you over to the local councils and flog you in their synagogues.
Mat 7:20 Thus, by their fruit you will recognize them.

Notice again Jesus reminded us that by their fruits we would know them. Sometimes its difficult due to personal relationships to see through these wolves and remember one more thing;

2Co 11:14 And no wonder, for Satan himself masquerades as an angel of light.
2Co 11:15 It is not surprising, then, if his servants masquerade as servants of righteousness. Their end will be what their actions deserve.

That’s how Roderick can write his posts and act like a heathen…….and if you look at his posts again through what we now know and you will see them differently….

Guys, an update. Roderick just commented over at my blog on one of my entries asking me to “contact him”. let it be known that I am removing both my email and blog addresses from these commenting fields at this time. i have no desire to get involved in these struggles personally, and i am not sure what Roderick wants. But I should have realized putting all my information out there was not a good idea.

Wise move Kelby. After this post I will be ignoring those guys as much as possible. They seem to live on drama.

That’s a Hyper Preterist tactic. They want to get you alone so no they don’t have to worry about contradicting themselves…..Rod use to tell me that all the time. He use to say to me “don’t let them get you in private”…..make them say things out in the open…….
