First off, listen to this audio clip, particularly the last call from Fred. I left in the question from the prior caller as it helps to give a context to the show and Fred’s question. More after you listen to the clip:

Gary has been discussing Gog and Magog and general eschatology issues. He most certainly knows that in this Christian culture most people listening are futurists, and the potential for confusion in the form of thinking he is advocating hyperpreterism (i.e. there are no “end-times” prophecies left for the future) is very great. I am always painfully aware of this in my discussions. Gary most certainly also knows the criticisms and concerns that have been directed toward him about his unwillingness to clearly state that hyperpreterism is beyond the bounds of acceptable Christian doctrine, and some hyperpreterists have been saying for years that he is “secretly” one of their number (I am not giving any credence to that notion, just stating the background in which any comments he gets will be taken, rightly or wrongly.)
So, after taking an hour of talking about all of the things which are past, and receiving a call which very clearly in its context is asking him what “end-times” things a Christian may still expect, he doesn’t mention the resurrection or the second coming. This is alarming quite frankly. Whenever I am asked that question that is the first thing that comes out of my mouth because they do not want there to be a misunderstanding and I do not come to this question with the unfortunate background baggage of people suspecting that I actually am a hyperpreterist. The resurrection is a cornerstone of the Christian faith, it should be proclaimed out of our mouths in every opportunity.
Now, in all due fairness, Gary was very limited on time, but that really should have been the first thing that he said considering the quite obvious contextual confusion of his caller. Batman walked away with the impression that all Christians are to expect is bear Christian obligation to disciple and evangelize the nations. That is unfortunate.
Gary does some wonderful work as evidenced by the amount of space I dedicate to his material, but he really needs to get some Christian clarity on the foundational issue of the resurrection and its importance to faith.
[I very purposefully in stating "resurrection" above did not differentiate between the issue of the resurrection of Christ and the resurrection of believers, they are both foundational to Christian faith, and the New Testament intimately connects one with the other. Make no mistake about it, hyperpreterists deny the resurrection.]
[I also am NOT doubting Gary's profession of belief in the orthodox doctrines of the resurrection and the second coming.]
