As we’ve noted several times Hyperpreterism advocates a view “like” the Gnostics of the 2nd Century in redefining the nature of the resurrection of the dead along mystical lines.

Green Goes to Lyon

Dave Green pleads,

Biological reanimation is not the resurrection and the life.  Jesus is the resurrection and the life.  To live (i.e. to be resurrected) is to believe in Him

Pothinus, Bishop of Lyon replies,

No, to believe is to begin the way of salvation.  The end of the way is the redemption of the body.  You error in knowing the Scriptures, the Apostle Paul himself wrote explaining to the brethren in Corinth, “this perishable body must put on the imperishable, and this mortal body must put on immortality.”, which when it comes to pass, “Death is swallowed up in victory.”

Green responds,

Yes, but Valentius explains in his treatise on the resurrection, “He put aside the world which is perishing; he transformed himself into an imperishable Aeon and raised himself up, having swallowed the visible by the invisible, and he gave us the way of our immortality.  Then indeed, as the apostle said, ‘We suffered with him, and we arose with him, and we went to heaven with him.’”  Pothinus, there is no need for you to suffer the penalty that will inevitably befall you should you not recant. Do the right thing, follow the teaching of Valentius then you and your folk will be spared from your impending death.

Pothinus eyes his adversary and states emphatically,

For me to die is gain, I cannot recant the hope that lies within me. May God have mercy on you.

The Green Shell Game

We’ve already demonstrated, Green’s scholarship in “House Divided” is seriously lacking.  It appears Green’s default position when dealing with criticism of his view is to recast his opponents position to something he can deal with instead of dealing with the argument presented.  He employs this tactic again when dealing with Dr. Strimple’s position identified as “Strimple argument #10” Once again Green proceeds without  quoting Dr. Strimple claiming the good doctors position is, “Preterism therefore is a physical-body disparaging argument”, (House Divided, Dave Green, Vision Publishing, pg. 176-177)

When Integrity Comes to SGP

What happens when a person becomes accustomed to a culture of lies, cover up, & good ole boy back patting & then someone who is supposed to be part of the “group” comes & displays some integrity?  This very situation has recently happened on SGP (hyperpreterist website — home to the pseudo-conservative hyperpreterists — I like to call it Super-Great-People, since its leaders/founders think it is the best thing since sliced bread).

From its very beginning SGP has been a place, a culture of deceit, hyprocrisy, & cover up & that’s all before we even get to the doctrine it advocates.  In recent times, SGP’s leaders have been involved in unrepentant actions of referring to another man’s wife as whore.  Sam Frost, SGP de facto leader & protege of Virgil Vaduva has been the biggest culprit in justifying the culture of SGP.

But recently, Dave Green (another long time hyperpreterist who has just recently started to interact with the wider movement in more detail), has joined SGP.  Green has been cited before as a guy who though wrong on his doctrine, has had the integrity to be honest in other areas of his life.

Green had posted a statement on his own website (source) & it was duplicated on SGP by Sam Frost (source) — without a source link back mind you, typical of Frost’s methodology.  But hey, maybe Frost doesn’t think he needs to source link back, now that he thinks he & Green & suddenly “good buddies”.

Anyhow, the summary of the posting is that Green says that if “futurism” is true, then yes hyperpreterism is a damnable heresy.  Of course, Green claims that HISTORIC CHRISTIANITY (what Green is calling “futurism”) is not true.
